Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio remains mum on the latest statement of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte saying that she will run for president with Senator Christopher "Bong" Go as her running mate in the 2022 national elections.
In a text message, the presidential daughter said "no comment" when asked about the Sara-Go tandem.
Sara Duterte-Carpio is currently mayor of Davao, the Philippines' third-largest city, and on Saturday filed her candidacy to run again for mayor. She has previously said she would not run for national office next year.
In a report from Reuters, Duterte announced the tandem after he said he will be retiring from politics.
He was asked: "So is it clear, Sara-Go?"
"It is Sara-Go," Duterte said in response.
On Saturday, the President accompanied his longtime aide Go as he filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president in the 2022 national elections.
In a speech at the event, Go said he decided to run for the vice president after Duterte, who was initially endorsed by the party, withdrew his acceptance. This was not made public until Go's filing today.
On the same day, Duterte-Carpio filed her certificate of candidacy for reelection in 2022 as Davao City mayor.
Duterte-Carpio's filing comes amid her remaining as the top choice for the presidency in the upcoming elections.
