Visayas Grid faces another Yellow Alert

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) once again raised a Yellow Alert in the Visayas grid on Wednesday, August 6.
In an advisory issued at 7 a.m., the alert is in effect from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
According to the update, the available capacity is 2,538 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is at 2,369 MW.
Visayas plants on unplanned/forced outage:
- SCBI – 7.4MW
- HPC U1 – 2MW
- VMC 1 – 2.5MW
- EAUC U1 – 11.5MW
- CARMEN DIESEL U4 – 10MW
- SCBP – 19.5MW
- SNBP – 25MW
- BISCOM BIOMASS – 12.7MW
- VMC 2 – 35MW
- NNBP – 25MW
- CASA 2 BIOMASS – 7MW
- 1ST FARMER BIOMASS – 9MW
- CASA BIOMASS – 8MW
- HPC U2 – 9.5MW
- CABI BIOMASS – 12MW
- URC BIOMASS - 20MW
- TVI U2 - 169MW

Plants with de-rated capacities:
- CALBAYOG DIESEL – 10.5MW (de-rated by 0.5MW)
- LEYTE A – 192MW (de-rated by 298.1MW)
- PGPP2 SOG1 – 19.5MW (de-rated by 0.5MW)
- TGPP – 79.5MW (de-rated by 41MW)
There are a total of 5 days of Yellow alert occurrences in 2025. All events happened from August 1 to August 6, reflecting elevated stress in the grid from outages and scarcity in reserves.
Meanwhile, the Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition.
