Sara Duterte-Carpio on Saturday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for her third and final term as local chief executive of Davao City.
The presidential daughter filed her candidacy at around 4:15 PM at a local Comelec office.
"I have been honored with the gift of trust and respect of many of our fellow Filipinos. Thank you to everyone who have expressed their support. Many of you do not know me and yet you carry me over your shoulders," Duterte-Carpio said in a Facebook post.
"Like the other millions of Filipinos, I share with you the same goal of living a peaceful and prosperous life in our country, today and in the many years to come. I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly, and credible elections in May 2022," she continued.
In a statement, her spokesperson said her youngest brother, Baste Duterte, would vie for vice mayor.
Once she wins next year, it will be Duterte-Carpio's 4th non-consecutive term, having been mayor for the first time from 2010 to 2013.
Duterte-Carpio's filing comes amid her remaining as the top choice for the presidency in the upcoming elections.
Earlier this day, her father President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he will be retiring from politics as he gives way to longtime aide, Sen. Bong Go for the vice presidency.
