The estimated crowd in the grand procession of the Image of the Black Nazarene on Tuesday, January 9 breached 2.8 million, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

Data from the NCRPO Public Information Office (NCRPO-PIO) stated that the crowd number was already at 2,807,700 as of 1 PM. This included the devotees at Quirino Grandstand, the Traslacion procession, and the Quiapo Church.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) reported treating at least 600 patients who sustained major and minor injuries during the Black Nazarene procession.

Out of 600 individuals catered to by the PRC, 256 individuals had their vital signs checked, 180 were minor cases whereas six were major ones.

27 individuals were transferred from a first aid station to the hospital with 19 being carried to the PRC’s Emergency Field Hospital at the Kartilya ng Katipunan and eight being transferred to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

Among the minor complaints from patients were abrasion, puncture, dizziness, elevated blood pressure, difficulty in breathing burn, infected wound, chest pain, and avulsion. The major cases sustained head trauma (swelling), incision, fainting, laceration, vomiting, and severe chest pain.

As of writing, the procession is already at the area of Hidalgo Street, approaching Quiapo Church.

The image of the Black Nazarene left Quirino Grandstand at 4:45 AM.
