The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that the Mayon Volcano has positive development after only 2 volcanic earthquakes were recorded.

“As of now, wala tayong masyadong volcanic earthquakes na nakikita. Significant po iyan kasi habang umaakyat iyong magma, dapat mayroon tayong mari-record na mga low frequency volcanic earthquakes. Dalawa lang since 5 a.m. yesterday and 5 a.m. today,” PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol said.

"Dalawang volcanic earthquakes lamang iyong na-record natin although tumataas nang bahagya iyong total seismic energy release pero again we have to look at this closely," it added.

Bacolcol added that PHIVOLCS keeps an eye on the Mayon’s surroundings and activities.

Amid the director’s remarks about the volcanic earthquake, PHIVOLCS still recommends maintaining Alert Level 3 and the six-kilometer meter danger zone perimeter around the volcano, as well as, the evacuation of the people inside the zone, Bacolcol noted.

“So, kapag may mga abrupt changes sa parameters, we might consider extending the danger zone to seven kilometers or if not kapag masyadong abrupt na talaga, we have to raise to Alert Level 4 but for now it’s still maintained at Alert Level 3,” it added.

Last June 8, PHIVOLCS raised the alert status to Alert Level 3 because the volcano was "exhibiting a magmatic eruption of a summit lava dome with increased chances of lava flow and hazardous PCDs (pyroclastic density currents) affecting the upper to middle slopes of the volcano and of potential explosive activity within weeks or even days.”

Previously, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. went to Albay in order to visit the evacuees and check on them.

In order to lessen the Local Government Units (LGUs) burden on disaster response, the President instructed national agencies to give 90 days of relief assistance.

Additionally, there are 9,571 families incoming from 26 affected barangays and 4,471 families in the evacuation centers, according to Office of Civil Defense Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno.

Aside from the assistance from the LGUs, the national government has provided a budget worth ₱35 million.
