Work and classes across all levels are suspended in Tacloban City on Monday due to Tropical Storm Agaton, according to Mayor Alfred Romualdez.
Romualdez in an executive order instructed that work in all government and private offices, as well as institutions in the City of Tacloban are suspended.
This does not include, however, employees involved in the maintenance of peace and order, disaster risk management, health and sanitation, as well as traffic management.
Classes in all levels are also suspended due to Agtaton, according to the order.
The suspension was due to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Agaton in the city, which was previously under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 as per the weather bulletin from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday afternoon.
Agaton was last detected over the coastal waters of Tanuan, Leyte, on Monday morning, according to the weather bureau, with maximum sustained winds of 56 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour.
Residents under signal no. 2 are told to expect gale-force winds, as well as rough to very rough seas over the seaboards.
In line with this development, Romualdez also ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Tacloban City Rescue Unit, City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Health Office, Tacloban City Hospital, and the Traffic Operation Management Enforcement and Control Office to be on full alert and continue operations to be able to respond to all contingencies and address any situation that may occur because of Agaton.
