House Speaker Martin Romualdez applauded lawmakers from the 19th Congress during his address on Monday, June 2.
As the 19th Congress nears its adjournment, Romualdez recalled that the 2025 midterm elections have reshaped the political landscape and renewed the people’s mandate for governance. Despite this, he congratulated those who prevailed.
“The people have placed their trust in you once again. Carry that trust with honor, humility, and grace. Use your renewed mandate to fight even harder for their needs, for their votes, and for their future, where no Filipino is left behind,” he said.
“To the rest of my colleagues, saludo po ako sa inyo. Your service in this chamber will not be forgotten. Hindi man kayo nabigyan muli ng bagong termino, tandaan niyo: you were part of something bigger than any one election,” he added.
“You helped us pass laws, you shaped debate, you served your districts with passion and integrity. You gave your all, and the Filipino people saw it. Your legacy is now woven into the fabric of this Congress,” he continued.
Although not all current lawmakers will return for the 20th Congress, Romualdez highlighted that the “House of the people delivered.”
Before the end of the 19th Congress, he shifted the focus to passing the “Open Access in Data Transmission Act,” to make fast and reliable internet accessible to every barangay. He also brought attention to finalizing the proposed E-governance Act.
Additionally, Romualdez mentioned the Philippine legislation on artificial intelligence, so that Filipinos can embrace innovation while protecting privacy, ethics, and human dignity.
“Mga kasama, maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. Whether you are returning in the 20th Congress or closing your final term in public office, you are part of the legacy of one of the most productive and united congresses in Philippine history,” Romualdez expressed.
“Let us use every remaining hour, every session day, every ounce of our energy to complete what we started. Let history remember us, not just as lawmakers, but as leaders who chose unity over division, service over ambition, and people over politics,” he added.
Meanwhile, RH 12 Milky Rigona reported that lawmakers are now prioritizing the remaining bills before they officially adjourn next week.
