A major road accident involving nine vehicles occurred on Thursday morning along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, resulting in injuries to more than ten passengers.
According to a report by RH 5 Val Gonzales, a passenger bus bound for PITX from Sapang Palay, Bulacan, lost its brakes and crashed through the concrete barriers of the MRT-7 construction site.
The bus driver stated that the vehicle’s air brake malfunctioned, causing it to hit the car first, then collide with four motorcycles and three other vehicles, including a UV Express van. Due to the severity of the crash, rescuers had to forcibly open the UV Express’s doors to get the passengers out.
More than 10 individuals sustained injuries and were immediately brought to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, no deaths were reported.
A passenger of the UV Express said that the most injured person inside the vehicle was the front-seat passenger, who was asleep during the collision.
Moreover, a roadside tent and an electric pole were also damaged. Several debris from the vehicles flew and scattered in different directions of the road, reaching a distance of 200 meters.
Emergency responders from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and other authorities quickly responded to the scene.
The bus driver is currently in the custody of Quezon City Traffic District 5.
Meanwhile, the incident caused heavy traffic congestion in the area.
