President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. met with the members of the Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. (PCFMI) to address the shortage of sugar supply in the country.
PCFMI is the main organization of food products manufacturers and distributors in the country. It is responsible for ensuring that food products are consumer safe, nutritious, and affordable in accordance with local and international regulations.
“The President vows to have systems in place to manage the price increase so that businesses are kept running and job security is ensured,” the Office of the President's Facebook page shared.
Marcos earlier said in his weekly Youtube vlog that the Philippines might import sugar by October due to a possible shortage of supply.
He claimed that 150 metric tons would be enough for the rest of the year rather than the proposed 300 metric tons that he earlier rejected.
Adding to this, he explained that although he rejects importation, he does not want the supply to decrease because this will prompt the rise in sugar prices.
