The military and police conducted a manhunt after informing BuCor of the escapee. Catapang said that personnel from the National Capital Region Police Office and the Intelligence Service of the Armed Froces of the Philippines was able to find and re-arrest the escapee along Del Pilar, Makati City.

The inmate was identified to be Federico Abamonga, 30, and was first sentenced from 8 to 14 years imprisonment by the Regional Trial Court Branch 273 for homicide. He has been serving for eight years prior to his attempted escape on July 22. He was immediately turned over to authorities at 7:00 PM on Friday.

Under the agreement between BuCor and the PMA, the latter is designated in monitoring the activities and security of the deployed PDLs, and will be held accountable for any escapees and other incidents that concern their safety and rehabilitation.
