Two hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, have been transferred to Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro as part of the Bureau of Corrections’ (BuCor) decongestion program.
According to BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., 100 corrections officers escorted the PDLs to decongest the NBP and augment manpower for agricultural projects at the penal farm.
The PDLs arrived safely on Friday night. They were brought to SPPF under the supervision of Chief Inspector (CCINSP) Anthony Nupable Omega and with the assistance of the BuCor SWAT, Muntinlupa Police, Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP HPG), Coast Guard, Port Police, as well as the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Security Team.
Catapang has also ordered his officials to take thorough precautionary measures for all facilities, in preparation for the rainy season. Such tasks include the inspection and repair of roofing, the clearing of gutters and the drainage system, trimming trees, and ensuring emergency power supplies are ready for use.
The NBP is due for closure in 2028.
