The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) relieved and issued preventive suspensions against four New Bilibid Prison correctional officers following a stabbing incident which killed one Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and injured two others.
The officers have been identified as Acting Commander of the Guard Inspector Louie Rodelas; Corrections Officers 1 (CO1) Juan Christian Alonzo and Joshua Mondres, who both served as keepers of Building 8, and CO1 Glicerio Cinco Jr., stationed at Gate 1A.
“Our personnel should be alert and vigilant to enhance the safety protocols that govern the custody and management of inmates anytime of the day,” said BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr.
The incident occurred at 7 in the morning of Thursday, January 2, at Gate 1A of the Maximum Security Compound.
Catapang has asked the Commission on Human Rights to conduct their own investigation, alongside the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) parallel probes.
