For this year's Undas, no one will be left behind from paying respects to their dearly departed, as persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) can be virtually present for their loved ones.
On Thursday, October 31, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced that they will be launching the Electronic Undas, or e-Undas, across New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Camps (Maximum, Medium, Minimum, and RDC).
In observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day (November 1 to 2), the PDLs will be one video call away from getting the most authentic experience of visiting the cemetery.
The two-day activity will be spearheaded by the Inmates Visitation Services Unit (IVSU) personnel of each camp.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang will facilitate the supervised video calls for PDLs, despite the challenging circumstances.
“We want to make sure that despite physical confinement, PDLs can still stay connected with their families during meaningful occasions,” Catapang said.
A special holy mass led by Catapang and other BuCor officials at the mass grave within the NBP Cemetery will be held on November 2.
