The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is currently monitoring two ports, which are Corregidor and Cavite Gateway Terminal, where 21 passengers have been reported stranded due to recent flooding due to inclement weather, according to PCG spokesperson Capt. Noemie Guirao-Cayabyab.
“Dalawang pantalan na lang ang ating mino-monitor wherein Corregidor at Cavite Gateway,” Cayabyab said.
“Iyong 21 passengers na na-report na stranded is from Cavite Gateway Terminal at Corregidor,” she added.
Cayabyab said that PCG remains active in providing assistance, including free rides to stranded commuters in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), amid widespread flooding and heavy rainfalls across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The spokesperson further stated the PCG has deployed its Deployable Response Groups (DRGs) to several flood-hit areas, including Valenzuela, Marikina, San Juan, Tanza in Cavite, Cainta, Montalban, and San Mateo in Rizal.
The free ride services cover key commuter routes such as:
- Quiapo to Angono
- Quiapo to Fairview
- Lawton to Alabang
- Roxas Boulevard to Sucat
“Nagdeploy tayo ng malaking sasakyan at mga bus para matulungan ang stranded na commuters,” Cayabyab noted.
According to the PCG, the highest flood levels they responded to reached waist-deep in some areas late Monday night.
“Halos hanggang bewang simula kagabi, at mabuti naman ay medyo humupa na rin," Cayabyab said.
"Pero ang naging problema talaga ay ‘yong sasakyan ng ating mga kababayan kaya naman tayo sa PCG ay nagbigay ng tulong with the partnership with DOTr [Department of Transportation] at PPA,” she noted.
For those in need of help, Cayabyab advised the public to reach out via the PCG’s official Facebook page or contact their hotlines, which are open 24/7 at 0966-217-9610 and 0927-560-7729.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor weather conditions as retrieval operations persist for the remains of missing cockfighting enthusiasts, which were allegedly dumped in Taal Lake.
According to officials, technical divers are currently on standby and ready to proceed with the search once weather conditions improve.
“As of now, minomonitor pa rin po natin ‘yong weather conditions, nakastand by po ang ating mga technical diver so in case na gaganda ang panahon ay patuloy naman po ang gagawin na operations,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, the low pressure area (LPA) that brought widespread rainfall across the country has developed into Tropical Depression “Dante.”
