The low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) now has a high chance of turning into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours, according to PAGASA on Wednesday, September 3.
Based on PAGASA's 4 AM bulletin, the LPA was last located 1,190 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon. PAGASA anticipates that the system may develop into a tropical depression before it exits the country.
If the inclement weather persists, it will be named "Kiko," making it the first typhoon for the month of September.
However, PAGASA emphasized that due to the LPA's distance from the landmass, it is not expected to have a direct impact on the country, even if it becomes a cyclone.
Despite the LPA's remote location, its presence will enhance the southwest monsoon, or habagat, which is currently bringing rain to the western parts of Luzon and the Visayas. The monsoon is expected to cause scattered thunderstorms over the next two to three days, particularly in the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique.
Localized thunderstorms will also affect other areas like Metro Manila, with brief and intense rain showers expected, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Over the weekend, the southwest monsoon may strengthen, bringing more rain to Luzon. Meanwhile, Mindanao and the eastern parts of the Visayas are likely to experience pleasant weather.
