On Friday, The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical, Services Administration (PAGASA) notified the public that La Niña is likely to emerge by August to October this year, and will last until the first quarter of 2025.
They stated the possibility of experiencing an above normal rainfall over some parts of the country once it occurs; a higher chance for tropical cyclone occurrence and an increased convective activity. Moreover, the phenomenon may bring floods and landslides over vulnerable areas.
PAGASA made the initial announcement back in March this year, stating a 55 percent chance of La Niña. However, in recent findings, its possibility was increased to 70 percent.
La Niña is an occurrence known to bring cooler-than-average sea surface temperature across the central and eastern parts of the country.
PAGASA advises the public and local government to take precautionary measures against the said phenomenon.
