One person of interest in the killing of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig, 24, was found dead in his home in Taguig City due to alleged suicide, police said Friday.
Biñan City Police Station (CPS) acting chief Lt. Col. Virgilio M. Jopia said the suspect, whose identity they withheld in respect to the grieving family, was found lifeless in his house on Friday, March 3.
Jopia said the person of interest — a 28-year-old alumnus of Adamson University — was driving another vehicle, which carried some fraternity members and another suspected hazing victim.
His parents were the ones who coordinated with the Biñan police to surrender the vehicle, the police chief added.
Complaints have already been filed against the six suspects who were linked to the death of Salilig.
On Wednesday, Salilig's autopsy report showed that he died due to "severe blunt force trauma to the lower extremities." His body was found in a vacant lot in Malagasang, Imus, Cavite on February 28, ten days after he was reported missing by his family.
The autopsy described the body as bloated and in the decomposition stage. It also noted that several hematomas — pools of clotted blood — were seen in Salilig's body, especially on his chest and thighs.
