Passengers of Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) and Light Rail Transit (LRT-2) will be getting free train rides on December 30, Rizal Day, according to its management.
In an announcement, the MRT-3 management said the free tain rides will last from 7AM to 9AM, and from 5PM to 7PM.
"Ang libreng sakay ay bilang pakikiisa ng pamunuan ng MRT-3 sa paggunita at pag-alala ng buong bansa sa kabayanihan ni Gat Jose Rizal," it said in a statement.
(The free ride is the MRT-3’s way of joining the country’s commemoration of the heroism of Gat Jose Rizal.
The first train will depart the North Avenue station at 4:40AM, while the first train from Taft Avenue will leave at 5:26AM, according to the management, while last trip will be leaving North Avenue at 9:30PM, and the last train will leave Taft Avenue at 10:16PM.
Meanwhile, the LRT-2 will also be offering the free train rides from 7AM to 9AM.
It also said it is part of their commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Rizal's heroism.
In the meantime, passengers are urged to observe health safety protocols during their trips, such as strictly wearing face masks and voluntarily wearing face shields.
Inside the MRT-3, passengers are also asked to observe its Seven Commandments it released last month, which includes the prohibitions on talking and eating while inside the coaches.
December 30 marks the 125th anniversary of Rizal Day, when the country's national hero was executed at Bagumbayan, now known as Rizal Park.
