Manila Zoo temporarily closed to public for “finishing touches"
by Christhel Cuazon02 June 2022

Manila Zoo will be temporarily closed to the public starting Tuesday, June 1 in order to complete its renovation, the city government announced.

In a Facebook post, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso said the zoo was shut for "finishing touches."

The city government did not give a specific date for its reopening.

The zoo was shut down in January 2019 for dumping untreated waste sewage water into Manila Bay during the administration of then-mayor Joseph Estrada. In December 2021, it had its soft opening for construction workers.

The new Manila Zoo features new facilities for the animals and a statue for the elephant Mali, a well-known attraction in the zoo.
