The six individuals reported injured in a chemical explosion at GlobeTek Science Foundation were senior high school students, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection-Makati (BFP-Makati).
In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, BFP-Makati stated that five of the students have already been discharged from the hospital, while one remains under medical care.
The explosion, which occurred at around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, was caused by ethanol ignition while the students were conducting an experiment inside the laboratory.
The BFP-Makati declared the operation "safe and mission accomplished" by 6:46 p.m.
Fortunately, none of the students sustained critical injuries and no reported significant damage to the laboratory.
BFP-Makati is currently investigating whether the school violated safety protocols. However, authorities clarified that the institution has complete documentation for the proper handling and storage of chemicals, including ethanol.
Despite the incident, classes at the school continue as scheduled.
