A swift police response led to the arrest of two Chinese nationals involved in an attempted murder incident in Makati City on Thursday night, June 26.

The Southern Police District (SPD) confirmed the suspects were apprehended within minutes of opening fire on a Filipino businessman at the rear parking area of Makati Cinema Square along Amorsolo Street, Barangay Pio del Pilar.

The victim, identified by police as a 40-year-old male alias "Christopher," was inside his black Toyota Fortuner around 9:13 p.m. and preparing to leave when one of the suspects fired multiple shots at his vehicle. Despite at least four bullet holes hitting different parts of the SUV, the businessman escaped unscathed.

SPD's Makati Police Substations 3 and 5, along with SWAT and Tactical Motorcycle Riders (TMR), immediately responded to the alert from the Station Tactical Operations Center (STOC). Their rapid deployment, assisted by on-site surveillance from intelligence operatives, led to the arrest of the two suspects before they could flee.

The arrested individuals were identified as alias “Liquan,” 44, and alias “Xunjun,” 36. Recovered from the suspects were:

  • One Glock .40 caliber pistol with magazine
  • One HK MP5 9mm submachine gun with two loaded magazines
  • Various bladed weapons including chef knives and tactical knives
  • A hammer, duct tape, and other materials believed intended for torture
  • Two mobile phones
  • A metallic green Toyota Vios used as the getaway vehicle

Four spent bullet casings were found at the scene. Police noted the firearm used and the suspicious items indicate possible links to a professional or organized criminal group.

SPD District Director PBGEN Randy Y. Arceo praised the coordinated efforts of the responding units, aligning their actions with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) "5-Minute Response Directive" and the NCRPO's "Triple A" strategy—Able, Active, Allied.

"This is SPD in action alert, coordinated, and committed to protecting our communities. We don’t just respond we prevent further violence before it escalates," Arceo said.

Formal complaints for Attempted Murder and Violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) are being prepared against the suspects.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the suspects' immigration status and possible connections to gun-for-hire groups or illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
