Kapamilya star Joshua Garcia will bring joy to Filipinos everywhere in his new role as Lance Slashblade from the upcoming Inside Out 2 Tagalog dub.
Lance Slashblade is a video game character in the popular movie sequel, whom Riley, its main character, had a crush on as a kid.
New to voice acting, Garcia found the role challenging.
“Ginawa ko siya kahit na kinakabahan ako, and while doing it akala ko madali lang. Ang hirap pala niya, para siyang may kailangan kang hawakan habang nilalabas mo 'yung emosyon doon sa sinasalita mo para lang maging mas expressive ka,” the actor-model said.
(I did it although I was nervous to, and while doing it I thought it was simple. But it’s actually difficult, it’s like you have to hold onto something while you release the emotions in your lines just so you can be expressive.)
“Ang gandang experience niya sa akin kasi doon ko nakita and the value na hindi madali ang maging voice actor, napakahirap na trabaho niya,” he added.
(It was such a good experience for me because it was then that I saw the value and difficulty of being a voice actor, it’s a really hard job.)
The actor said he was inclined to a more subtle style of acting, and that the role pushed him into expressing emotions in a bigger way.
Despite the challenges, Garcia was happy to have taken on the role as it has expanded his know-how in acting.
“Mas lumawak 'yung knowledge ko sa sining ko, sa art ko, sa acting ko, dahil ginawa ko 'to,” Garcia said.
(My knowledge in my art, in my acting, was expanded because I did this.)
The heartthrob also confessed he found Slashblade to be relatable in his life under the limelight. He explained that people looked up to Slashblade, but Slashblade would question whether he should be thought highly of.
“Parang nakakahiya pa rin for me,” the star admitted.
“Ganoon din si Lance Slashblade. Doon sa scene niya hindi rin siya sigurado kung bakit siya 'yung pinili na favorite character, eh hindi siya ganoon kalakas na character,” Garcia told media.
(Lance Slashblade is also like that. In his scene, he was also unsure why he was picked as the favorite character when he isn’t the strongest.)
