Blackpink’s Jennie dyed her long tresses in fiery red, seemingly enigmatic, for the release of her first studio album. You heard that right, the popstar is finally dropping her first full-length album on March 7!
On Wednesday, the K-pop idol dropped the official album trailer for “Ruby,” including six featured artists on her YouTube channel. The trailer showed Jennie in various looks, all circling back to the shade of red.
However, Jennie’s mystifying concept is not the only thing fans should look out for. Based on the 33-second trailer, the idol’s tracklist includes several collaborations with various artists like Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, FKJ, and Kali Uchis.
“Ruby” will be released in collaboration with Odd Atelier (OA) Entertainment (Jennie’s label) and Columbia Records. According to OA Entertainment, the album features 15 carefully curated songs that explore a variety of genres, showcasing Jennie “truly stepping into her own.”
OA Entertainment stated that the 29-year-old singer’s track, “Mantra” will be included in the album.
In December 2024, the global superstar teased in a now-private video on her YouTube channel, that her album would sound "very different" compared to her previous songs. She added that she wants listeners to feel like her debut album is unexpected, but also familiar.
The singer-rapper is part of the K-pop group Blackpink, alongside members Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo. The quartet debuted in 2016 under YG Entertainment, breaking through the music industry with hits like “Kill This Love” and “Whistle.” Their success followed them in their international endeavours, making history as the first Asian act to headline Coachella in 2023.
Jennie debuted as a soloist in 2018, with her single “Solo.” This year, Jennie is set to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 13 and 20.
“Ruby” will be released on March 7, featuring 15 songs exploring a variety of genres.
