BLACKPINK's Jennie is all set to release her debut solo album for next year, and she wants fans to be “shocked, but in a good way.”
In an unlisted video titled “Goodbye, Hello” on YouTube, the k-pop idol had a recap of the year 2024, along with a mini-interview just in time for Christmas. In the video, Jennie teased fans with the release of her upcoming album for 2025.
“My album is going to sound very different. My next single is going to sound very different from ‘Mantra’, I feel like every little step is going to be different,” she said.
A good 11 months was all it took for the BLACKPINK member to believe that her album was finally ready. Although the public knows that she had been releasing music for quite some time now, she emphasized how she had never done this on her own before.
“I’ve never done this before, and people assume that this has been in my life. Which is kind of true, but I’ve never really done it on my own. I’ve always had the girls by my side. And I was always in a safe environment,” Jennie said, giving a nod to her BLACKPINK bandmates.
The idol teased fans on more details about the songs and whether it had featured artists. Sadly, specific titles and names were censored. She, however, assured that she poured her soul into making the songs, especially her favorite one in the album.
Jennie discussed feeling a lot more comfortable with herself and hoped that it would bring everyone closer to her.
“My hope with my album is that the world gets to see Jennie and her music as it is. Like, I wouldn’t even be mad if you hate it,” she said with a chuckle.
“There’s a little bit of everything for everyone. It’s like a buffet for you guys,” she added.
Additionally, Jennie wants listeners to feel like her debut album is unexpected, but also familiar.
"I want them to feel it was very unexpected, but also familiar. I think this year is going to be the little seed in my life," she stated.
"A new era for me. It's finally, finally time for me to show what I've been working on and what I've been holding onto, and just really let it out," she continued.
In September this year, Jennie signed a solo deal with Columbia Records through the k-pop idol's own record label and entertainment agency, Odd Atelier.
girlsA month after signing with Columbia Records, Jennie dropped the ultimate anthem for pretty girls, “Mantra.”
