Philippine cinema’s “Gold Standard,” Hilda Koronel, officially ended her decade-long hiatus from acting, as she is set to return to the silver screen for the historical thriller film, “Sisa.”
The film and television production company and talent agency IdeaFirst Company announced the veteran actress’ historic return on their social media pages on Tuesday afternoon. The cinema icon will be starring in the historical thriller film under the helm of Jun Robles Lana.
“A legendary actress and the epitome of grace and talent, Ms. Hilda Koronel’s impact on Philippine cinema is undeniable as she has set the gold standard for generations of actors to come,” the studio wrote in its caption.
“Watch Ms. Hilda Koronel soon in her latest role, SISA, a film specially crafted for her by Jun Robles Lana,” it added.
“Sisa” is a historical thriller film about a “woman who defies expectations in an era when women were meant to be silent.” The studio mentioned that the upcoming film is an international co-production between The IdeaFirst Company, Octobertrain Films, Quantum Films, Cineko Productions, CMB Films, and Myanmar-based Forever Group.

Born Susan Reid, Koronel began her career in acting in the 1970s and has continued to defy expectations in the industry, portraying a diverse set of roles in various films. The actress was recognized for her acting career, accumulating various awards from different award shows like the MMFF, FAMAS, Luna, and the Gawad Urian.
Koronel is best known for her lead roles in the films “Insiang,” Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag,” and “Tanging Yaman.”
Her last film was in 2012, for Olivia Lamasan’s film “The Mistress.”
