Filipino-American beauty influencer Bretman Rock blasted “nepo babies” (short for “nepotism babies” or scions of wealthy parents) who allegedly use taxpayer money to fund their exorbitant lifestyles, while having poor taste in fashion.
“I would be mad too if I was funding these motherf*cking nepo babies’ life and they’re buying ugly things. I would be mad, trust,” Bretman joked in Instagram Stories posted on September 3.
“Like these motherf*cking nepo babies using up people’s money to buy and fund their lavish lifestyle and some of their questionable, ugly fashion choices,” they added.
The biting remark comes amid a recent flood of criticism against families linked to corruption in anomalous flood control projects. Some such nepo babies accused of squandering the Filipino people’s money have also been exposed on social media.
Internet personalities such as Claudine Co and Jammy Cruz have lately faced scrutiny and deactivated their social media accounts.
Claudine Co has been linked to Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, (her uncle) and former Congressman Christopher Co (her father). The Co brothers are co-founders of Sunwest Group of Companies, a top Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) contractor. Christopher Co also co-founded Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corp., another contractor which cornered a large share of DPWH’s projects in recent years.
Meanwhile, Jammy Cruz’s father is Noel Cruz, general manager for St. Cristo Construction and Trading Inc., which was awarded at least ₱3.5 billion worth of flood control projects, according to a report.
