Actress-host Maine Mendoza defended her husband, Quezon City 1st District Representative Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde, against allegations linking him to anomalous flood control projects.
In a social media post on Monday, Mendoza said that the accusation against Atayde was baseless and unfair.
This came after the Discaya couple named Atayde as one of the individuals who allegedly received kickbacks, based on their joint sworn affidavit, which was revealed during the Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.
“Teka lang muna, those are baseless allegations. Please refrain from throwing hate and personal attacks at him, including me and our family until facts come out,” Mendoza said, urging the public to refrain from spreading hate and making personal attacks on them until the full facts are revealed.
She expressed her full support for her husband, stating that he had done nothing wrong and had been dedicated to serving the people of his district in Quezon City since the beginning.
She also emphasized how unfair the situation is and expressed her hope that those truly responsible will be held accountable; while innocent individuals, like her husband, will be spared from the issue, stating, “I sincerely hope and pray that the people who are TRULY responsible will be held accountable and that innocent individuals be spared from this mess. Nakapa unfair.”
Moreover, Atayde strongly denied the allegations that he received any benefits from contractors involved in the flood control projects.
He clarified that he never had any dealings with them and firmly stated that the accusations were untrue.
Atayde emphasized that he has never used his position for personal gain and never intends to do so. He also said he would take all legal steps necessary to clear his name and hold accountable those responsible for spreading false information against him.
