Gilas Pilipinas secured its spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup after outlasting host Saudi Arabia, 95-88, in overtime early Tuesday morning in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Justin Brownlee led the charge with an all-around performance, tallying 29 points, four rebounds, five assists, and a block. The naturalized forward delivered the game-saving three-pointer with 3.7 seconds left in regulation to force the extra period.
In overtime, Kevin Quiambao, Dwight Ramos, and AJ Edu stepped up to seal the victory. Edu finished with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Quiambao also had 17 points, including six crucial markers in the extra five minutes. Ramos contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds in a balanced team effort.
The victory marked Gilas’ second straight win after dropping their first two games of the tournament, giving them the momentum they need heading into a tough quarterfinal clash against defending champions Australia on August 13, also in Jeddah.
