Gilas Pilipinas’ 2025 FIBA Asia Cup campaign came to an end after an 84-60 loss to defending champions Australia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Kevin Quiambao led the Philippines with 17 points and four rebounds off the bench, followed by Dwight Ramos who tallied 15 points and seven boards.
AJ Edu added eight points and eight rebounds, while Justin Brownlee was limited to just 10 points under Australia’s tight defensive coverage.
Head coach Tim Cone admitted that the team struggled to match the Boomers’ superior height and speed, acknowledging the gap they still need to close at the continental level.
Despite the defeat, Gilas finished in the tournament’s Top 8, an improvement from their ninth-place finish in 2022.
The national team will next face Guam in November as part of the qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
