Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan Assistant District Engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez will be moved to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed on Tuesday.

The arrangement was reached in coordination with House Speaker Martin Romualdez and will be carried out under the supervision of the Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA).

Hernandez, who was earlier cited in contempt by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee for allegedly lying during hearings on irregular flood control projects on Monday, September 8, appealed before the House Committee on Infrastructure not to be sent back to the Senate’s custody.

During the resumption of the House Infrastracture Committee on Tuesday, September 9, Hernandez presented a series of photographs allegedly showing officials linked to questionable flood control projects in Bulacan. He went further, claiming that several senators were involved in the anomalies.

“May mga involved pong senador dito,” Hernandez told lawmakers.

One of his more explosive allegations pointed to Senator Jinggoy Estrada, who he claimed dumped about PHP355 million in kickbacks from Bulacan flood control projects earlier this year.

In response, Senator Estrada said he is considering filing a complaint against Hernandez for implicating him in alleged corruption.

“I have to talk to my lawyers,” Estrada said.

The Senate President explained that the decision to place Hernandez in PNP custody, instead of returning him to Senate detention, was made out of respect for “inter-parliamentary courtesy” with the House of Representatives.

Earlier, Senate security personnel inspected the custodial facility at Camp Crame in preparation for Hernandez’s possible detention.

Hernandez’s testimony has stirred fresh controversy in the ongoing probes, as both chambers of Congress continue to investigate widespread anomalies in government-funded infrastructure projects.
