Eraserheads’ lead guitarist, Marcus Adoro, is stepping back from the band’s upcoming project, as sexual abuse allegations resurface online.
In a social media post on Sunday, April 6, the band’s frontman, Ely Buendia, announced that Adoro will be stepping back from their upcoming project, as he makes time to address the matter at hand. Buendia acknowledged the gravity of the allegation and said they stand against abuse in any form.
“We acknowledge the recent allegations that have surfaced online. As proponents of justice, we unequivocally condemn all criminal acts and stand against abuse of any form. Above all, we seek the truth,” his statement read.
“As Marcus makes time to address the matter at hand, he will be stepping back from the upcoming project,” he added.
“We move forward with humility and deep respect for the truth and social responsibility,” he continued.

The allegations surfaced in late March, after a Reddit user alleged that the lead guitarist had raped them when they was in high school. The Reddit user expressed falling into despair because of how unfair it is that people can forgive and forget so easily.
“He is a known and recorded abuser of women. He beat Barbara Ruaro. He abused his own child,” the user wrote.
“He raped me and countless other women,” it continued.
Past Allegations
In 2019, singer-songwriter Syd Hartha broke her silence on the alleged abuse that she suffered at the hands of her own father, Adoro. The musician expressed that she grew up yearning for her father’s love and affection. However, her Facebook post detailed the physical abuse she had to endure from the band member.
“sa halos isang taong madalas ko siyang nakakausap at nakakasama, nabigyan na ng kasagutan lahat ng bitbit kong katanungan noon. hinding hindi ko makakalimutan iba’t ibang klase ng abuso na dinanas ko sa kanya. kaya pala ako nilalayo ng nanay ko at iba pang mga kamag-anak ko sa kanya. kaya pala,” he post read.
“kahit grabe yung nagagawa niya sa akin at sa mga mahal ko sa buhay, naniwala pa rin ako noon na may puso pa talaga siya at kaya pa niyang bumawi. masyado akong naniwala. masyado ko siyang tiniis pero sa totoo lang, 'di ko rin masisisi sarili ko kasi matagal ko nang hinintay yun eh. gutom na gutom ako sa pagmamahal at atensyon niya na nakalimutan kong alagaan rin sarili ko,” she added.
She posted screenshots of her conversation with Adoro, including one conversation with the latter’s ex-partner, Barbara Ruaro–who had also spoken about domestic violence. However, Ruaro did not name the person who caused the abuse at the time.
According to Syd Hartha, the fear of the abuse repeating continued to stay with her until that moment. She cautioned the public and said, “Let’s watch out for each other.”
The 2022 Reunion
In 2022, the Eraserheads announced that they would be reuniting. However, after the allegations surfaced, netizens were outraged and called for Adoro’s exclusion from the band’s reunion.
To address the matter, Adoro posted a statement on Instagram, stating that he tried reaching out to his daughter ahead of their upcoming reunion concert. However, he stated that he wasn’t sure if his messages were getting through. Hence, the post.
“As you already know, I’m far from perfect kaya normal if you want nothing to do with me. Sana lang magkaroon ng second chance for redemption. I’m sorry for the ruckus that I may have caused my family, the public, the sponsors and my bandmates. Pasensya na,” he wrote.
He then thanked the people who supported the band’s art and asked that they continue to support the reunion.
Adoro has yet to address the sexual allegations against him.
