Local rock legends the Eraserheads will raise the roof of the Araneta Coliseum as they headline the UAAP season 87 opening on September 7.
Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, and Raymund Marasigan, who formed the band as students at the University of the Philippines, are set to “share their magic” at their reunion performance under the event’s “Stronger Better Together” theme.
“We're happy that the Eraserheads are going to share their magic with the UAAP as we start Season 87. Saktong-sakto yung mangyayaring ito sa theme natin for this season (This fits right in our theme for this season),” UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development (OASD) Director Bo Perasol said. “They reached the top, disbanded, reunited, and now, full circle na sila sa UP and sa UAAP (in UP and in the UAAP). They are true music icons and legends and our national pride.”
The UP OASD has promised that the performance will be an “unforgettable moment in time.” In addition, the event has a line-up of other “top-notch” performers.
Just last week, the band was recognized with the awarding of the Gawad Oblation Award, the highest distinction UP alumni can be given for their remarkable contributions and service. The Eraserheads is renown for classics such as “Ang Huling El Bimbo” and “With a Smile.” Their music has won them the MTV Asia’s Viewers Choice Award at the 1997 New York MTV Video Music Awards, making them the only Filipino artist to have bagged such an award before MTV Asia Awards was made.
