A Criminology graduate was fatally attacked and stabbed with an ice pick after chasing an alleged thief who had stolen his cellphone in Malate, Manila.
In a Facebook post on February 13, the victim's cousin mentioned that the incident occurred on February 9 at around 11 p.m.
"S[i]ya na ang ninakawan ng Cellphone. S[i]ya pa ang Binugbog at sinaksak ng Icepick sa tagiliran ng dalawang beses. [At]ska pinag papalo, suntok,tadyak,sa kahit saang parte ng katawan nya at mukha," the cousin said.
"Dahil sa kagagawan ng Isang tao na gustong kumuha sa cellphone nya. Hinabol nya yung kumuha sa cp nya kaya sya nka pasok sa Isang Bahay. Ang hindi nya alam duon na sya pag tutulong tulongan bugbogin at saksakin," she added.
The victim’s cousin added that after he jumped out of the house, he was surrounded and beaten after the alleged thief who took his phone shouted "thief," directing the accusation at the victim.
Furthermore, the victim’s cousin noted that no one, not even an official or anyone in authority, intervened or attempted to calm the situation.
"Isa pa sa nakaka lungkot na pangyayari sya na nga ang na bugbog sya pa ang kinasuhan ng mga salarin," the victim's cousin added.
The victim was charged with trespassing and attempted murder.
Moreover, the family claimed that the victim had only been in the Malate area for two weeks, staying in a boarding house while looking for work as he awaited his board exam.
On Thursday, the victim succumbed to his injuries, and the family is seeking justice for his untimely death.
