A police officer was arrested in Tondo, Manila on Saturday morning, September 6, 2025, after allegedly pointing and discharging his service firearm during a heated argument with his live-in partner’s family.

The suspect was identified as Patrolman Mark Robin Tanglao y Gutierrez, 33, member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) assigned as a beat patroller at Parañaque City Police Station. Tanglao, a resident of Wagas Street, Tondo, was taken into custody for violation of Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code (Alarms and Scandal) due to the illegal discharge of firearms.

According to the incident report, the quarrel happened around 6:40 a.m. along Mabagos Street corner Lualhati Street in Tondo. Initial investigation revealed that the suspect was having a drinking session with his partner’s family when an argument broke out. Tanglao allegedly drew his service firearm and fired a shot toward a pile of sand.

Authorities from Moriones-Tondo Police Station immediately responded after receiving a 911 KALASAG call at 6:55 a.m. reporting the gunfire. Responding officers found Tanglao sitting on a staircase and, after negotiations, he peacefully surrendered.

Recovered from his possession were his PNP-issued firearm with serial number T6472-19 BG 25685 and a magazine loaded with seven rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

Tanglao was brought to Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center for a mandatory medico-legal examination before being detained at the police station. He was informed of his constitutional rights but opted to remain silent.

Authorities are already investigating the incident.
