Dogs are indeed man's best friend and while Golden Retrievers are one of the most charming breeds out there, they are not cut for guarding our homes.

In a now-viral CCTV footage released by the San Diego Police Department, a bicycle thief, who was about to go off stealing a very expensive bike, was seen stopping to pet a golden retriever who emerged from inside the residence.

The suspect could be heard saying, "You're the coolest dog I've ever known. I love you, too. You're a sweetheart," while showering the dog with pets and belly rubs.

He also asked the playful canine where its owner is and even quipped at how they should not have left their garage door open.

The man fled the scene while the dog is all tail wags while watching the man taking his owner's expensive bike.

The suspect is described as a white male, last seen wearing a blue and white hat, gray shirt, blue shorts, and orange athletic shoes. He was carrying a black and blue backpack.

The thief remains at large and police are requesting assistance from the public for any information about him and his whereabouts.
