Four towns in Albay are at risk of being affected by ashfall if the Mayon Volcano erupts, according to Dr. Paul Karlson Alanis.
The towns of Camalig, Daraga, Legazpi, and Sto. Domingo are the areas of concern.
Alanis based his assessment on the movement of winds from the north towards the south.
However, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has not yet determined whether Mayon will indeed erupt, especially since there has been a slight decrease in volcanic activity.
"Dalawa po 'yung scenario na tinitingnan natin. 'Yung unang scenario is baka naman po nag-iipon lamang ngn lakas ang Mayon Volcano at bumubwelo para sa isang malaking eruption gaya nung 2018," he said during his interview with DZRH Damdaming Bayan.
"And then meron din tayong ikalawang scenario naman, baka naman tahimik lang na maglalabas ng mga mainit na bato at paminsan-minsa'y mliit na pagputok gaya ng ginawa niya noong 2014," Alanis added.
Meanwhile, despite the unrest of Mayon Volcano, one farmer living within the 6-kilometer radius of the volcano revealed that they have not evacuated yet.
Mang Francisco Vilbar admitted that they are afraid of Mayon's possible eruption, but he is concerned about his crops and livestock. If they were to evacuate, Vilbar would face the problem of leaving behind his livelihood.
"Natatakot din po [kami na sumabog ang bulkang Mayon] kaya nga lang marami kaming inaalagaan ditong mga halaman at marami kaming mga pananim," Vilbar shared.
