The 65th Palarong Pambansa was officially opened on Saturday, May 24, in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Over 15,000 student-athletes, coaches, and delegates from different regions gathered for the country’s premier inter-school sports competition.

A tribute to Teófilo Yldefonso, the Philippines’ first Olympic medalist, was made through the event’s official mascot, designed to represent his swimming prowess as the famed 'Ilocano Shark'.

Moreover, Filipina weightlifting icon and two-time Olympic medalist, Hidilyn Diaz, took center stage to lead the oath of sports coaches and technical officials.

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. graced the opening ceremony, accompanied by the Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara and officials from the local government.

Marcos commended the athletes for their dedication and determination, describing them as admirable examples for the youth of the Philippines.
