The Ilocos Norte Provincial Board on Wednesday, July 26 placed the province under a state of calamity due to the devastating damages brought by the onsalught of Typhoon Egay.
In a public advisory posted on its official Facebook page, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte said that properties and agricultural crops have sustained massive damages and that means of livelihood was disrupted amidst Typhoon Egay-induced rains, strong winds, and severe floods.
"Efforts to assess the full extent of the damage and provide necessary aid and relief to affected communities are underway," it said.
The provincial government assured that it is working with the national government to restore essential services including water and power supply.
It added that it is also ensuring that immediate needs of affected residents are provided.
Latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed that a total of 1,269 families or 3,806 individuals in 53 barangays in Ilocos Norte have been affected by Typhoon Egay.
Of this number, 270 families or 810 individuals were displaced and are taking shelter in 21 evacuation centers.
Twenty-five Municipalities in Ilocos are still experiencing power supply interruption while 14 has already restored.
On Wednesday, the northern portion of Ilocos Norte, including Burgos, Bangui, Dumalneg, Pagudpud, Adams, Pasuquin, Vintar, Bacarra was placed under Signal No.4 while the rest of the province was under Signal No. 3.
In a report by DZJC Aksyon Radyo Laoag Correspondent Dulce Valenzuela, the overflow of river water has damaged Tamdagan Bridge in the Municipality of Vintar.
Several roads in the Municipality of Piddig are not accessible due to the submerging of river water while the water has reached a barangay hall in the Municipality of Dingras.
