The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Region I has ordered a price freeze on the basic necessities in Ilocos Norte following the declaration of a state of emergency due to rabies outbreak.

In a statement on Thursday, DTI - Region I said the basic necessities include canned sardines, processed milk, coffee refill, laundry bar, candles, bread particularly Pinoy tasty and Pinoy pandesal, salt, bottled water, and water in containers, and locally manufactured instant noodles.

“The said monitoring operation is pursuant to Section 6 of the Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act, prices in an area under a state of emergency shall be automatically frozen at their prevailing prices for a period of 60 days unless sooner lifted,” it said.

According to DTI - Region I, the monitoring team led by DTI-I OIC Provincial Director Amelia Galvez conducted a monitoring in the price and supply of basic necessities in the supermarkets in Laoag City on Thursday, June 21.

The Ilocos provincial board earlier issued Provincial Resolution No. 149-2023 declaring a state of local health emergency in the province due to rising incidence of dog rabies cases.

The said order took effect last June 2.
