British singer-songwriter Zayn Malik announced on Saturday the postponement of the U.S. leg of his 'Stairway to the Sky' tour following the death of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne.

"Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY Tour," Malik said in a social media post.

"The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days," he added.

He assured fans that previously sold tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates, which will be announced soon. He also extended his apologies and gratitude to everyone for their understanding.

The concert schedule initially featured five dates in the United States and six in the United Kingdom, with the first show planned for October 23 in San Francisco.

Malik began making waves as part of One Direction, a group formed on Britain's X Factor in 2010 with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne.

After Malik departed from One Direction in 2015, the famous boy band broke up the following year.

Liam Payne, 31, tragically passed away on Wednesday after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Authorities were alerted to a hotel in Buenos Aires' Palermo neighborhood after an emergency call about 'an aggressive man under the influence of drugs and alcohol,' shortly before Payne's tragic fall.

In a heartfelt post on Thursday, Malik paid tribute to his brother, praising him as the most qualified in every way when it comes to music.
