Three people were charged in connection to former One Direction member Liam Payne’s death last October, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office of Argentina announced on Thursday.
According to authorities, they found evidence of “illicit conduct” by three people. However, they did not name anyone specific, only stating that a hotel employee from the hotel where the singer fell to his death was among them.
The suspects were charged last week.
Alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants were found in Payne’s system moments before his death, the toxicology report indicated. Moreover, the post-mortem examination also ruled the singer’s cause of death as “multiple trauma” and “internal and external hemorrhage.”
Due to this, medical reports suggested that Payne fell on his hotel balcony in a state of semi or total unconsciousness; ruling out earlier reports of self-inflicted injuries.
Police officials said that one person who reportedly accompanied Payne was charged with abandonment of a person after death, and the supply and facilitation of drugs. Consequently, a hotel employee and another person were charged with supplying drugs.
Apart from that, 800 security camera footage in the hotel and public roads nearby were examined by the police.
The singer’s body was released to his father, Geoff Payne, on Wednesday and was eventually flown back to his home country in the UK.
The former One Direction member died on October 16 after falling from a hotel’s third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31.
