Television show host Willie Revillame remarked that in politics, having expertise is not always essential; at times, a genuine and pure heart can be more valuable than knowledge.
The senatorial aspirant for the upcoming 2025 elections expressed that his motivation to run stems from his compassion for his fellow Filipinos.
He aims to bring attention to the lives of ordinary citizens rather than the pride and ego of those in power.
"Hindi naman ako abogado. Hindi naman ako nakatapos pero ang busilak naman ng puso ko [para] sa ikagaganda ng buhay ng ating mga kababayan," Revillame said in an exclusive interview on DZRH's Damdaming Bayan on Wednesday.
According to him, he could be the catalyst for addressing the issue of poverty within the government.
He further noted that, according to his research, approximately 110 million Filipinos are currently living in poverty.
He insisted that the goal of a public servant is to help, and that having extensive knowledge is not a prerequisite for this role.
"What is a public servant? What is a senator? What is a mayor? What is a public servant? Hindi ba ay makatulong kaya ka nandyan para tumulong sa mga kababayan natin na nangangailangan," said Revillame.
"Hindi naman kailangan na mayroon kang alam. Minsan nga mas maganda pa ‘yung wala kang alam basta busilak ang puso mo sa pagtulong," he added.
Revillame, an independent candidate, submitted his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for senator on the final day of filing, October 8, just minutes before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) closed the filing for candidates.
