Vice President Sara Duterte filed a petition before the Supreme Court (SC), challenging the House of Representatives’ impeachment process.
The report by RH 7 Henry Uri on Wednesday, February 19, cited a press release by the Fortun Narvasa & Salazar law firm. According to the document, the Vice President has filed a petition before the high court, challenging the validity and constitutionality of the fourth impeachment complaint.
“The petition seeks judicial intervention from the High Court to uphold due process and raises serious legal and constitutional concerns,” the press release indicated.
“The Vice President, for her part, trusts that the Supreme Court will exercise its constitutional duty to safeguard democratic principles and uphold the rule of law,” It ended.
The petition was filed after the House moved to impeach VP Duterte, citing the betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the constitution, graft and corruption, and other crimes.
Last week, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to file criminal charges against VP Duterte, in connection to the death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
