The House of Representatives moved to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, February 5, after 215 congressmen signed the endorsement of the complaint to the Senate.

The report by RH 12 Milky Rigonan, stated that the results of the impeachment raps against the Vice President were read by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco at the plenary. Duterte’s impeachment from her seat was based on the following grounds:

• Betrayal of Public Trust
• Culpable Violation of the Constitution
• Graft and Corruption
• Other high crimes

Some of the basis for the grounds mentioned are Duterte’s kill plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the questionable spending of the confidential and intelligence funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) during her tenure as secretary.

The complaint also emphasized how Duterte failed to declare her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN).

Duterte faced public scrutiny after the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability uncovered several anomalies in the usage of confidential funds within the OVP and DepEd. The inquiry found that more than half of the names included in the two agencies’ acknowledgement receipts had no birth records and were deemed non-existent.

In December 2024, advocacy groups filed the first impeachment case against Duterte, citing anomalies within the two agencies under her leadership. The Makabayan Bloc filed a second complaint the following week.

Duterte mentioned before that she is ready to face the complaint against her, with her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, as her lawyer.
