The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recommended to the Department of Justice (DOJ) the filing of criminal charges against Vice President Sara Duterte in connection with the controversial 'death threat' against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, NBI Director Jaime Santiago told DZRH that the recommended charges against the Vice President involve grave threats and inciting to sedition.

Last November 2024, in a virtual press conference, Duterte mentioned that she had arranged for someone to kill President Marcos Jr., House Speaker Romualdez, and the First Lady if she herself gets assassinated.

Malacañang then promptly classified the statement as an 'active threat' and urged the Presidential Security Group to take immediate and appropriate action.

Furthermore, Marcos stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law while expressing concern over the alarming statements, including the careless use of profanity and threats of planned assassinations.

The NBI further noted that, based on their findings, there is sufficient evidence to file charges against Vice President Duterte in connection with the alleged threat.

Earlier, the NBI Director confirmed that the bureau had officially completed its investigation and is prepared to submit its recommendation to the DOJ.

He stated that it is now up to the DOJ to decide whether formal charges will be filed against Duterte after reviewing and assessing the NBI's findings.

Meanwhile, Duterte has recently denied the allegations that she issued a threat against the President, First Lady, and the House Speaker.
