The low-pressure area (LPA) that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Saturday morning intensified into a tropical depression, now named "Nika," according to PAGASA.

"At 8:00 AM today, the Low Pressure Area east of Southern Luzon developed into Tropical Depression #NikaPH," the weather bureau reported in a Facebook post.

Starting at 11:00 a.m. today, PAGASA will release tropical cyclone bulletins to keep the public updated.
