Senator Francis 'Tol' Tolentino on Wednesday said that he will serve as the legal counsel of Senator Ronald 'Bato' de la Rosa in his case in the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In an interview with the reporters, Tolentino said dela Rosa had sent a letter asking him to stand as his lawyer and he has accepted it.
"I'm now speaking as the counsel for Sen. Bato de la Rosa," he added.
The Senator said he will formally write to Senate President Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri to allow him to practice as an international lawyer and stand as de la Rosa's legal counsel.
Meanwhile, when asked if he would also represent former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Tolentino said he has yet to talk to the latter.
"Pero kung gusto niya, inaayos ko pa 'yung letter ko ngayon for proper accreditation if that will to that point," he added.
Tolentino, who chairs the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, accentuated that the ICC has no jurisdiction in the country's cases.
"For a foreign chamber to intervene with foreign judges is too much. It's not similar to the special cases, more specifically since we are no longer a member of the Rome statute," he said.
Dela Rosa served as the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief during the war against drugs campaign of the Duterte administration.
