Timothée Chalamet just made history, as he became the youngest Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award winner for Best Actor!

On Monday (Manila time), the actor won the award for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in the James Mangold biopic, “A Complete Unknown.” The actor’s win came as a surprise, as he was also nominated alongside Adrien Body.

Timothée began his speech by thanking the guild, adding that he did not expect to win. He also thanked his mother, who has been working at Actor’s Equity for 40 years.

“I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role, and how much this means to me, but the truth is, this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero, and it was the honor of a lifetime playing him,” he said.

“It’s an honor I share with Monica, Edward, [and] the entire cast, doing a biopic in a genre that could be perhaps tired. Everyone gave it their all — I’m so deeply grateful to them,” he added.

The actor continued by stating that he aspires to be one of the greats and his inspirations like Daniel Day, Lewis, Marlon, Brando, Viola Davis, and many others.

“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness,” he said.

“I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day, Lewis, Marlon, Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel. it’s a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much, he ended.

The actor also celebrated his win on Instagram, expressing his joy and gratitude to the members of SAG.

His biggest competitor, Adrien Brody, remains the youngest best actor at the Academy Awards who was also 29 at the time. The previous SAG Best Actor winner was Nicolas Cage who won for “Leaving Las Vegas” in 1995 when he was 32 years old.

This is Timothée’s first SAG Award, but was previously nominated twice for “Call Me by Your Name” and “Beautiful Boy.”
