A cheeky Timothée Chalamet slipped into a contest for his own lookalikes, held at Washington Square Park in New York City on Sunday.
The Wonka actor took attendees by surprise after sneaking up on two contenders posing for photos. Before revealing himself, he had worn a mask and baseball cap as he moved through the crowd, Variety reported.
The doppelganger contest, arranged by YouTuber Anthony Po, garnered online RSVPs in the thousands. A lookalike in a Willy Wonka costume, Miles Mitchell hailing from Staten Island, was proclaimed the winner and received $50. He flung candy for the spectators.

New York police purportedly put an end to the “unscheduled” event. In a statement, the police department said they had “responded” to “an unscheduled demonstration at Washington Square Park.” According to accounts on X, a lookalike was also taken into custody.
Chalamet will star as Bob Dylan in the upcoming biopic “A Complete Unknown,” which follows Dylan’s rise to prominence.
