One of the leading ladies in the music industry, megastar Taylor Swift has endorsed 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz and urged her fanbase to do their research for the approaching elections.
Swift endorsed Harris in a post on Instagram, following the Harris-Trump debate. She encouraged research on current issues and the positions the candidates have taken on those most pertinent to fans.
The “Lover” singer shared that she has personally taken the time to watch and read up on the candidates’ policies and plans to inform her vote.
The endorsement was also in response to AI content wherein she had supposedly shown support for Republican candidate Donald Trump. She realized transparency about her preferences was necessary.
“The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” Swift wrote.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” the artist stated. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
She also disclosed she was “heartened and impressed” by Harris’ choice of running mate, as Tim Walz is a known decades-long proponent for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s bodily autonomy.
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” Swift said in her post.
The singer-actress concluded with a reminder to register to vote and recommended voting early.
Democrat nominee Kamala Harris has said on her policy page that she has “always stood up for the people against predators, scammers, and powerful interests,” promising to be a president for all Americans.
She has expressed a commitment to creating an “Opportunity Economy” which will grant everyone a fighting chance for success regardless of where they come from.
Harris has also vowed to make it her “top priority” to lower costs and pull up economic security by fighting to cut taxes and bringing down the costs of commodities, housing, and healthcare.
